GOD REQUIRES THE WHOLE

"I'll do what I can, then leave the rest to God"—
Not thus Christ Jesus spoke.
"Of mine own self I can do nothing" was what he said.
Yet his strong word broke
Shackles of sin and pain; through the dream of dying
The sleeper heard it and woke.

God is the source of all action. From His wise planning
Every right purpose must stem.
Who seek His support and guidance must make their beginning
As well as their ending with Him.
When the first steps, as the last, are to Him entrusted,
He blesses all of them.

Leaving the whole to God, we are not idle;
His energy we express.
Alert to take the perfect Christ as our model,
Ours is all true success.
Knowing that we of our own selves can do nothing,
We do God's business.
