For a long time I suffered from oppressive shortness of breath. A doctor diagnosed the case as suppurative pleurisy, as a result of which much water formed in my chest. Punctures were made, and much of this fluid was drawn off to relieve the condition, but this did not heal me. Again and again the water accumulated had to be removed by puncturing.

In June, 1950, I became acquainted with a woman who had been in the hospital for months, but had afterward been very quickly healed through Christian Science. She gave me the address of a practitioner, with whom I got in touch, hoping that I would be helped just as this woman had been. The practitioner very lovingly told me about Christian Science, and I returned home reassured and full of confidence. I went once more to the practitioner and began attending a Church of Christ, Scientist.
