On page 574 of Science and Health...
On page 574 of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy we read, "The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares." The following experience made clear to me the meaning of the lines just quoted.
While I was driving in a busy city at an intersection where the green signal gave me the right of way, a heavy truck crashed into the right side of my car, doing considerable damage. After the traffic officer disentangled our vehicles and the necessary information was exchanged, I drove to the address of the owner of the truck. On arriving there, I found the driver of the truck, the president of the company, and their insurance adjuster in conference. The president said that according to their driver and the evidence of a few witnesses I was entirely responsible for the collision and resulting damage to the two vehicles, and that he would hold me accountable for damage to their truck. This was all, of course, the reverse of the facts.
Before replying I started to contemplate the spiritual significance of the Lord's Prayer, and I got only as far as "Our Father," when I realized the significance of God as the only creator of man; therefore man expresses Principle and Truth, and cannot be a false witness; he can witness only to truth. I arose and said: "I am going to tell you the truth about this collision, and I will then abide by your decision. Should you decide that it was my fault, I shall not take you into court; I shall bear you no ill will and shall pay for the damage to the truck and my own car."
