Long Beach, New York (First Church).

The dedication services of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Long Beach, were held in the church edifice on Long Beach Boulevard and East Walnut Street on Sunday, March 18, 1951, in the morning and afternoon.

This church had its inception when five students began holding services and Sunday School classes in their homes on January 7, 1934. When larger quarters were necessary by April of that year, the city officials granted them permission to use the courthouse. On May 1, 1937, this informal group was recognized as a Christian Science Society by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.

A building site was offered by the city of Long Beach to a member of the building committee, and when the accrued special assessments and interest were paid, the members acquired a clear title to this property on March 9, 1943. Ground was broken on July 12, 1948, and the first services were held in the new edifice on January 2, 1949.
