In 1914 it was necessary for my husband to take an extended trip to the Far East, and he desired that I accompany him. This meant leaving our three small sons in the United States with my mother. My husband was ill with an intestinal disorder, and when we reached Tokyo, although both American and English physicians did all they could for him, there was no improvement. When we arrived in Manila, an acquaintance, seeing my anxiety, asked me if my husband would try Christian Science. She told me that she had been healed of total deafness through its ministration. My husband consented to see a practitioner and in two visits was completely restored to health.
Curious to learn how this healing had been accomplished, I started to read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. At that time I had no thought that my own physical difficulties would be healed, although I had a leaking heart, a tubercular tendency, and a bent bone at the end of my spine which made sitting and rising very painful. All these conditions disappeared through my reading this textbook, and we both returned home in better physical and mental condition than ever before. Since then we have depended entirely on Christian Science, and our sons have never needed or desired any other help.
A healing that caused great gratitude was that of an ingrowing nail on the toe of our youngest son. Since we were comparatively new students in Christian Science and were not as alert as we should have been, we took him to a chiropodist, who, after several very painful treatments, said he could probably train the nail to grow properly if we would let him treat it every two weeks for a year.
