Of Good Report

First Church of Christ, Scientist, New Haven, Connecticut, reports the following heartening example of interfaith co-operation:

In June, 1949, we purchased a building site for a new church. As part of our fund-raising program, the dedicated edifice we were then occupying was offered for sale and was purchased in September by two combined Hebrew congregations, with August 1, 1950, set as the date for their taking possession.

When the ground was broken for our new church, late in the spring of 1950, we began to look around for a suitable place to hold our services after August 1, since we knew it would be many months before we could move into our new edifice. Although it meant postponing for some months their plans for remodeling the church, the new owners invited us to continue to use it on Sunday mornings as long as necessary, without charge, until our own building was ready. They were sorry they could not let us have the edifice on Wednesday evenings also, but they needed it for themselves at that time. We gratefully accepted, and we used the church till the end of the year.
