REPENTANCE

There is a law of Truth and Love that breaks
The chains of sin and leaves man free to rise,
Uncumbered by the weight of past mistakes.

The higher court of justice nullifies
False accusations. Let them be forgot...
And bury all the if's and all the why's.

Bury them deep, nor stoop to mark the spot,
That there be no temptation to exhume
Resentment and remorse—twin ghosts that plot

To steal your peace of mind and thus to doom
You to a pseudo conscience's hot flame
That has no power to purge or to consume.

Donning the white robe of repentance, claim
Your birthright—your white stone and your new name.
