"Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts" (Science and Health, p. 261). This wise counsel by Mrs. Eddy has been proved true to me.
Christian Science came to me when I was a young mother. Two of our children had bronchial trouble, and doctors said that the only help was a change of climate. At that time, too, my own mental outlook was darkened with disappointments and discouragement. It was then that I prayed with deep sincerity that God might be our Physician. The answer came very shortly after this. A neighbor on hearing of our difficulties said, "Do you know that there are people healing today as Jesus did while he was on earth?" This was my answer, and I earnestly took up the study of Christian Science. I found that it was not a change of climate, but a change of thinking that was necessary. The bronchial difficulty was healed. Christian Science has given me an understanding of the Bible in its spiritual import and has shown me how to worship God "in spirit and in truth."
God has been our Physician since that time, now more than thirty years ago. We have had many wonderful proofs of God's love and care. In the Second World War one of our sons was overseas for three years. Through our constant holding to the truth he came through safely. The day that the ship was to sail to bring him home I sensed the need of doing protective work for the voyage. In turning to divine Mind for guidance, I was led to look up the words sea and water. With the aid of the concordances to the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings I read many helpful references, and a sense of peace and sureness came to me.
