In my extremity I was asked by...

In my extremity I was asked by a friend if I had ever thought of trying Christian Science. I replied that I would try anything that would help me. I then visited a practitioner and in one treatment was healed of a long-standing condition which I had been told by doctors required surgical treatment and for which they could promise no cure.

Several weeks after this healing I arose one morning without giving any thought to putting on my glasses, which I had worn since I was a small child. Toward noon I realized that I did not have them on and for a moment became alarmed, because I had previously not been able to go without them at all. It was then I realized that I did not need them, and I have not worn them since. These healings took place about fifteen years ago.

Later I was able to prove the powerlessness of the claim of accident. In compliance with the law in our state, I was taken to the hospital. I was in a critical condition: one leg was broken, a hipbone was dislocated, the backbone was affected, and there were lacerations about the face and body. I was later told that I had for several hours repeated "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468). The doctor asked me if I was a Christian Scientist. I assured him that I was and said that I wished to go home. I also assured him that I had no doubt that Christian Science would heal me and that I had no fear.
