Several years ago I became interested in Christian Science at the recommendation of a friend, who was not a student of this Science, but who had seen how members of her husband's family had been helped and healed. I had not seen this friend for a few years, and she was shocked at my physical appearance when I went to visit her. I weighed less than a hundred pounds and was steadily losing weight in spite of much doctoring and special medical treatment. I told her I would look into this religion, although there was no Christian Science church or society in my home town, and I knew of only one family interested in Science.

Shortly after returning home I got in touch with this family, who gladly supplied me with copies of The Christian Science Journal and Sentinel. Then I secured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, also the Christian Science Quarterly, and I began to study daily. With the help of a practitioner in a nearby city I slowly regained normal weight. Most of this help was by absent treatment. As I continued the study of Christian Science, improved hearing, freedom from yearly attacks of tonsillitis, and the disappearance of nervous headaches were the results of a new concept of Church and of God as Love. These latter healings took place without specific treatment.

Over a period of years I have been healed of grief, of injuries resulting from accidents, of hemorrhages, and of a nervous collapse following a severe stomach and gall bladder disorder through the help of practitioners and friends. These testing times proved to be steppingstones to a clearer understanding of the divine Mind and of man as God's idea.
