Christian Science Committees on Publication Report INCREASING CO-OPERATION

[From annual reports]

South Dakota

The leaven of Truth is at work in this field. A society with every member doing consecrated metaphysical work faced a challenge when a night club (close to the downtown location of the church building) threatened to put up a large neon sign, with the consent of the city manager and majority of the aldermen. This is a violation of state law. Taking their stand, the Scientists were given the loving support of the ministerial association. After consulting the Manager of Committees on Publication and our legal advisor to determine our rights if court action became necessary, the problem was beautifully met. A special election removed the officials in question and changed the form of city government. No court action was necessary, and no liquor sign has been erected.

Two instances of public school superintendents giving praise to The Christian Science Monitor were reported by Assistants. In one case (at Lead, South Dakota, home of Mrs. Eddy's son George Glover) the school official in a published bulletin stated: "This is one of the finest newspapers in America. It is well worth anyone's reading." The other case was that of a superintendent who told the Assistant he had become acquainted with the Monitor while going to college, where he found it very useful. He said he recommends it, especially, to students of journalism.
