The constant protection afforded...
The constant protection afforded by Christian Science was early demonstrated in the complete freedom which I experienced from all the diseases supposedly common to children. Whenever a need arose for help, it was met immediately and in its fullness through the spiritual understanding of those about me and the loving work of Christian Science practitioners.
While in the naval service during the last war, I spent many months in strenuous training, both physical and mental. Constant study seemed to impair my eyesight to such a degree that I just passed the physical examination required for admission to a naval midshipman school. Much fear was expressed that I would not be able to pass the final eye test before graduation and the receiving of an officer's commission. As the study became more intensified, I realized the need, not of physical rest, but of gaining a proper understanding of the sense of vision as wholly spiritual. The ensuing four months were filled with good metaphysical work to meet this need. Much help was given by a Christian Science Wartime Worker who traveled many miles at night all through the year to give of his understanding and aid to me and to other young men like me.
The day of the examination came, and I found myself in the medical building waiting my turn with a fear which tried to blot out all the good work which had been done to meet the problem. I knew this was the time to make a demonstration and declared over and over the truth of man created in God's image and likeness. As my turn to read the eye chart came, my consciousness was flooded with the light of spiritual understanding, I stepped into the room without fear and read the required lines perfectly, not with just passing vision, but with perfect vision. This is the way of Christian Science healing.
