I learned of Christian Science in a time of great need, many years ago. I did not understand its teachings, but knew it to be the kind of religion I wanted to accept. However, it was several years after first I grasped a little of its meaning before I enrolled our children in a Christian Science Sunday School.

Our three older children had been attending Sunday School for some time before I purchased a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Before getting the textbook, I read the religious articles in copies of The Christian Science Monitor which the children brought home from Sunday School, and the distribution committee sent copies of The Christian Science Journal and the Sentinel. When the distribution committee first called me by telephone and asked if I would like the literature, I asked how much it would cost. The kind voice at the other end of the line said, "This literature is sent out free of charge by the distribution committee." I told her I would be willing to pay something for it, but she said they never charged for this service. This made me desire to give more to the church.

Soon alter I started to receive this literature, one of the children awoke in the night crying with an earache. I arose and read something from a Journal. I do not remember what I read, but it replaced fear with faith that God heals our diseases, and I had my first proof of the healing efficacy of the great truth that I was beginning to learn about.
