I want to express gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. For many years I have known about this Science, but the war years forced me to put my knowledge of it into practice.

These years were spent in Indonesia under Japanese rule. At one time I was in a Japanese prison camp for ten weeks. The circumstances under which we had to live were extremely difficult. But circumstances began to change in the measure that my thinking became more spiritual. When we were all very hungry, the following sentence in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy came to me as a direct command (p. 494): "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." The result was that from that moment our guards provided us with extra food and even shared some of their own food with us.

We were not allowed to have any books. How thankful I was that I had memorized the Ninety-first Psalm and Mrs. Eddy's poem "Mother's Evening Prayer" (Poems, p. 4). The last week in prison was peaceful and quiet in contrast with the previous weeks. I was then set free and was able to join my children.
