SPIRITUAL SENSE

A priceless possession that can be denied no one is spiritual sense. Everyone manifests it in a degree, for everyone is conscious of some measure of good. All may demonstrate it fully through Christian Science, the Science which reveals man as spiritual and immortal and denies reality to the corporeal senses, which portray him as fleshly and subject to death. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Unity of Good" (p. 21), "There is no sensible matter, no sense in matter: but there is a spiritual sense, a sense of Spirit, and this is the only consciousness belonging to true individuality, or a divine sense of being."

Utilizing spiritual sense brings out the true self, God's image, whose senses are purely spiritual. It confirms the presence of the individual spiritual consciousness that is the real man. The least ability to perceive spiritual truth should be treasured and protected from the inroads of materialism, for it prophesies the ability to discern heaven in its fullness and glory.

Spiritual sense unites humanity to God, for it has its source in Him. Being a faculty derived from divine Mind, it discerns the qualities and ideas of Mind, a capability which is impossible to the physical senses. This true sense beholds a purer manhood than the bodily senses can describe and lifts the individual perceiving, as well as those perceived, into higher spheres of being. It is through spiritual sense that we commune with Deity, become conscious of the formations of Spirit, and minister through that discernment to those discomforted by material beliefs and human maladjustments. One's success in healing through Christian Science rests upon the exercise of spiritual sense, which beholds man as God makes him, spiritual and guileless.
