THE LIGHT OF SOUL

When earth obscures the sun,
Throughout the long, dark night,
Do you, O doubting one,
Fear you have lost the light?

No, trustingly you wait,
And shadows disappear;
The dawn is never late,
And soon the sun is here.

Through what may seem to be
A long, dark night of sense,
Soul shines eternally
Beyond the shadows dense.

Then, surely you must know,
As faithfully you pray,
That understanding's glow
Heralds the joyous day.
