Many years ago, when highways...

Many years ago, when highways were not maintained as they are today and during the winter months one drove under adverse conditions, my minimum mileage a year was thirty thousand miles. Four mornings a week I was out on the highway before the snowplows were put to work. One Wednesday morning, after I had driven about ten miles, in car stalled in snow which was packed smooth and solid. I abandoned the car and walked back three quarters of a mile to a farmhouse, where I telephoned to a garage to send a car for me and a driver to get my car. On the homeward trip I learned that it was then thirty-five degrees below zero, and I discovered that my legs were frozen from the ankles to the knees.

My first copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, had been given to me by a friend. I telephoned to her, telling her of my predicament and asking for metaphysical help, which she gave for four days. As I lived alone, during the four days I studied the Bible and Science and Health. The real testing time came when I tried to walk and found upon rising in the morning that there was no circulation in my feet. On the following Sunday a church service was held in my home, at which time my friend said that she had worked to know that my rest would be unbroken. I had slept soundly during the nights.

I resumed my work the following morning. In two weeks the blisters had disappeared, although it was two or three years before they ceased to reappear during cold weather.
