"A BOUNTIFUL EYE"

"He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed" (Prov. 22:9). With this Scripture agrees the statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 505), "Spiritual sense is the discernment of spiritual good."

What a beautiful word is "bountiful." Considered spiritually, it expresses sufficiency, plenty, abundance, all that is inexhaustible and unexhausted. That which is spiritually bountiful is without limitation; it never wastes away, never changes, never wants, but ever renews and replenishes itself from its inexhaustible source. The action or outpouring of illimitable Love is blessedness or bounty. To be blessed is to be affluent, to have abundance of good.

The word "bounty" stems from the original Latin root which means good; hence bounty must be sought and found in God, who is infinite good. It must be spiritually discerned, for it emanates from Spirit and is wholly spiritual. Outside of spiritual sense there is no bounty, for the evanescent so-called bounty of material sense, which is here today and gone tomorrow, is pure delusion. The "bountiful eye" is the discernment or acknowledgment that all good is in and of God, as safe, permanent, immeasurable, and ever present as God Himself.
