Man Is Free from Temptation

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

Christian Scientists on college campuses, in the armed forces, in the business world, and in other fields of endeavor are proving daily that the temptations of the so-called carnal mind are merely lying suggestions, with no basis in fact. They are not only demonstrating this joyfully and successfully for themselves, but are encouraging and strengthening others to recognize and claim this liberating fact for themselves.

While still a freshman in college, a Christian Scientist was a guest at a reception where cocktails were passed. He was the only one among the large gathering of faculty members and upperclassmen who declined to indulge. He held steadfastly, if timidly, to his religious convictions that man responds only to the pure, holy, uplifting influence of God.

But error whispered to the college student, "You'll certainly pay for this in popularity." As he continued, however, to refuse to drink "just this one" with a polite "No, thank you," he found that he was not being scorned, but respected. And as his college career unfolded, he also found that his open stand against the use of tobacco as well as alcohol had become a genuine steppingstone to good.
