In the Christian Science textbook...

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 3), we find the statement, "Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks." This statement does not, however, mean that we should not continually give praise and glory to God for the blessings which it has been our privilege to experience through the study of Christian Science, but emphasizes the need of following the Scriptural commands (Ps. 105:1), "O give thanks unto the Lord; ... make known his deeds among the people."

I have gained much through turning wholeheartedly to the study of the Bible and of the textbook and other writings of Mrs. Eddy. My first experience in Christian Science was attendance at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I had attended this service in order that another might fulfill a desire to be present. I was immediately impressed by this God-given truth, and I have never ceased to attend these services.

After attending my third Wednesday evening meeting, I found I had lost completely any desire to continue in the social drinking habit, which had been an integral part of my daily activity for many years. Likewise, within six weeks of my first attendance I found that another habit of many years' standing, that of cigar smoking, had been destroyed. Both healings have been permanent.
