Great Joy

The angel who heralded the birth of Jesus that first Christmas morning reassured the watchful shepherds with these words: "Fear not: for, behold. I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."

Students of Christian Science know how perfectly the Saviour fulfilled his mission. He healed the sick, and comforted the multitudes who thronged him with the good tidings that they possessed a tender, loving Father who cared for even the smallest sparrow. And that even as a shepherd will leave the ninety and nine sheep and search for the one sheep that is lost, so in like manner the heavenly Father will not permit one of His children to perish.

The great Teacher also spoke to those who understood him more fully, of the deeper things of God, telling them that if they continued obedient to the words which he had spoken they would know the truth which would set them free from all human bondage. And in those last momentous hours before his crucifixion, the Master explained for all mankind the true meaning of life in these words: "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." Thus did Christ Jesus testify of his Father, Life, Truth, and Love, and become the Saviour of the world.
