Excerpts from Letters Concerning Christian Science Wartime Activities

[From a Christian Science Wartime Minister]

You will be happy to know that the aviation cadet about whom you wired me is making a remarkable recovery from what appeared to be a serious accident. 1 went immediately to the hospital and was admitted to the ward. The patient was asleep under an opiate. The ward was under considerable excitement at the time, as several other emergency cases had just been brought in, and confused mortal sense seemed very aggressive. I withdrew and gave treatment in Christian Science until I knew that a more harmonious atmosphere had been restored. The nurse showed me the examining doctor's report, which specified concussion, broken elbow, broken collarbone, multiple contusions, multiple lacerations of head, face, arms, legs; and there may have been other specifications. The plane was totally destroyed.

The following morning I called at the ward and spoke to the patient. His entire head was swathed in a bandage, with the exception of one eye and a corner of his mouth. He could speak only in a weak whisper.
