The Rt. Rev. Dr. Henry St. George Tucker
Baccalaureate sermon at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville
Let us seek to make this America of ours more truly Christian, so that, consecrated by the love of Christ, its ultimate victory in this war may not only assure its own salvation from peril but may bring about the healing of all the nations of the world.
Let us take courage from the recognition that, like all of God's chastening, these evils which have resulted from our disloyalty may be, by His help, transferred into an opportunity. This means not only that God will enable us to preserve the blessings that we are in danger of losing, but that our striving and our sacrifices will be used to extend these blessings to the whole world.
