Engineering and Christian Science

In the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 4) Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, gives us a beautiful and ever-enlightening prayer, the "Daily Prayer." After quoting Jesus' awakening and far-reaching statement, "Thy kingdom come," she follows with the key to all success in our daily living, "Let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!" Just to let God's goodness reign in one's consciousness is to exclude all sense of fear, want, or woe, and to leave no room there for aught but good.

To allow God, divine Mind, to govern each move we make, rather than humanly to take matters in hand as we are often wont to do, is excellent judgment. This "let" method of procedure has been thoroughly tried and proved highly successful in many walks of life by students of Christian Science. The "let" method may mean that one should turn from the beaten path of material outlining to discover the way to live and to live more abundantly.

A rather new student in Christian Science experienced an amazing unfoldment based on spiritual thinking. Many months of exhaustive research failed to disclose a solution to a problem involving an engineering design of a certain piece of machinery. Although much data and experience in the design and building of many pieces of equipment over a period of years were at hand to draw upon, the answers to the rigid material science demands for high productivity and extreme simplicity were not forthcoming. Contrarily, complicated devices were suggested and were the objects of much just criticism. As these persisted in consuming valuable time and drawing materials, prayerful consideration was given to the problem.
