Church Dedications
Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt. Merchantville, New Jersey (Society).—Christian Science Society, Merchantville, dedicated their church edifice on Sunday. May 23, 1943, at morning and afternoon services.
Early in 1934 a small group of Christian Scientists held their first meeting in Merchantville for the purpose of organizing a Christian Science Society. The newly organized society elected officers and Readers and held its first church and Sunday school services on May 6 of that year. The following year, the society gave its first Christian Science lecture.
With the thought of acquiring a building, definite plans were soon made, and in 1939 the property at 5 East Chestnut Avenue was purchased and remodeled. On Sunday, July 2, 1939, the first service was held in the new building. A Reading Room was opened on the following day.—Community News.
Torrance, California (First Church).—Special services were held on Sunday, May 2. 1943, in the morning and afternoon, to mark the formal dedication of the new edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Torrance, at Two Hundred and Eighteenth Street and Manuel Avenue.—Torrance Herald.
