Prayer in Time of Testing

Father , we thank Thee that Thou hearest always,
Whenever unselfed prayer goes up to Thee;
Whenever struggling hearts are still and listen,
Comes the sure answer, "Child, thou art with Me."

What can we fear? Though an unknown tomorrow
Dawn amid clouds of danger or distress,
E'en in the night of treachery and sorrow
The gentle lesson waits to heal and bless.

Teach us to look to Thee alone for blessing,
To loose the hold of self and clasp Thy hand;
Led by Thy love, Thy kingdom now possessing,
We seek that day when all shall understand.
