"Those who have named the name of Christ"

[Written Especially for Young People]

"May divine Love so permeate the affections of all those who have named the name of Christ in its fullest sense, that no counteracting influence can hinder their growth or taint their examples," says Mary Baker Eddy on page 223 of "Miscellaneous Writings."

These words of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science are full of inspiration for the individual who is endeavoring to be an obedient Christian Scientist. When allowed to govern his thinking, the power and gentleness of the Christ prove to be a needed protection against any opposing evil thought. As Mrs. Eddy's words are pondered by the student, his appreciation of her tender solicitude for the welfare of mankind is keenly felt. A warm sense of love for our Leader, and gratitude for her clear insight into the world's needs, floods his thought.

A student of Christian Science once embarked on a freighter for a three months' ocean voyage. There were eleven other passengers—all companionable, likable. It was soon evident, however, that there was only one other voyager besides the student who did not indulge in the social habits of drinking and smoking. The insistence upon everyone's joining in these practices was very persistent. Uppermost in the student's thought was the desire to be an obedient Christian Scientist; to see as nothing the false attraction which would attempt to handle her; to cling humbly to the high standard of conduct set by Christian Science without any show of self-righteousness.
