In Samfundsliv recently there was a very interesting article entitled "Christ as a Physician." The writer is undoubtedly right when he says that Christ Jesus must "have known a way to health, against which the somatically inclined medical art of our time becomes as barbarous as much of the medical art of former days compared with modern therapeutics." But when he states that the healing ministry of Jesus hardly can be compared to that of Christian Science, this is probably because he is judging this religion from a presentation which is erroneous.

Christian Science is the Science which underlies the teachings and works of Jesus. The so-called miracles of Jesus were not a supernatural setting aside of law, but were the outcome of his knowledge of man's relationship to God, and the knowledge of spiritual law, which is the only real law. Therefore he could say, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free;" and the Apostle Paul writes, "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."

The apostles and the first Christians healed in Jesus' way; but about the year 300 a. d., the "signs following" largely disappeared, the signs which in the beginning so mightily had contributed to the spread of Christianity, because they were the convincing evidence of the truth of its teachings.
