In the year 1928 I began to read the Christian Science ...
In the year 1928 I began to read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and was healed of many discordant physical conditions as well as of a very bad disposition. I then accepted Christian Science as the absolute truth, but did not accept its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy. One night while listening to a lecture on Christian Science I was healed of false thoughts concerning Mrs. Eddy. I want to express most sincere gratitude for this healing. Regardless of what anyone was saying or thinking about her, Mrs. Eddy kept on consistently in the work of delivering her precious message to the world. Speaking of Christian Science in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 336), she says, "Part and parcel of Truth and Love, wherever one ray of its effulgence looks in upon the heart, behold a better man, woman, or child." A ray of this truth entered my home, and I have enjoyed improvement in my daily life, as well as a clearer understanding of God and of man, whom God made in His own likeness.
I should like to mention one or two of the many outstanding healings in our family.
Quite a few years before taking up the study of Christian Science I became very ill. and was in bed for six weeks with what the physician called double pneumonia. It was a question whether or not I should recover. I have since realized that one of the reasons why I did recover was that I had no fear of this sickness whatever. When I was able to be out of bed I was cautioned by the physician to be very careful. He said that if I had another attack of the kind, even though slight, it would be impossible for me to survive, because of weakened heart and lungs. The year I began the study of Christian Science the condition reappeared. I had Christian Science help only, and was up and around in three days. A lingering cough, which was said to be the aftermath of the first illness, was healed also.
