Ardmore, Pennsylvania (First Church).—Dedication services of First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Ardmore were held on Sunday, December 24, 1939, in the morning, afternoon, and evening. It is a custom, regularly adhered to, that no Christian Science church can be dedicated until entirely free of debt. The Ardmore church is now completely paid for.
Christian Science Society of Ardmore was officially recognized by The Christian Science Board of Directors on May 27, 1921. By 1923 the society had grown to the point where it was decided to organize as a church, and early in the summer of that year this step was accomplished. At that time a Reading Room was established on West Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore. Services were still held in the Woman's Club, and Wednesday evening meetings were held each week instead of once a month.
Property was purchased at Athens and Linwood Avenues in Ardmore, and the present structure was built. The cornerstone was laid on July 12, 1928, and the first services were held on March 17, 1929. During 1933 the Reading Room was moved to its present address at 8 Rittenhouse Place.—Ardmore Chronicle.
