In 1909, I first became interested in Christian Science. Prior to that year I had had regularly severe attacks of tonsillitis. The next attack was met through Christian Science, and there has been no recurrence of this difficulty. Since then I have relied entirely upon Christian Science for the overcoming of all physical and financial difficulties. A sense of separation has been healed through turning to Christian Science.

One night, while in Australia, I suddenly had a severe attack of what I am confident would have been called appendicitis. All night through I worked alone, reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, although at times the pain was so intense I did not understand what I was reading. But I clung to the truth and overcame the temptation to use hot water bottles, call a doctor, or put any reliance whatever on matter. In the morning, I was quite recovered, although somewhat weakened. I have never had a recurrence of the difficulty.

On another occasion I contracted a poisoned foot through an abrasion while surf bathing. The poison spread until I had what appeared to be gangrene up to my hip, and was unable to walk. I had heard of others in similar condition who had had limbs amputated, and my friends advised me to have this done. But I clung to the truth and, with the aid of a faithful practitioner, completely overcame the difficulty, which vanished, leaving no trace.
