Bible Notes

[The Biblical citations given in the Christian Science Quarterly are from the Authorized King James Version. The Bible Notes in this column can be used, if deemed necessary, to elucidate some of the words or passages contained in the Bible Lessons.]

"God be merciful unto us . . . and cause his face to shine upon us" (Ps. 67:1)—Moffatt suggests the rendering: "O God, bless us with thy favour, may thy face smile on us."

"Thy saving health among all nations" (Ps. 67:2)—The Hebrew term here rendered "saving health" can also be translated "salvation, welfare, deliverance, prosperity." Thus various translations, including the early Bishops' Bible, have "thy salvation"; though Moffatt prefers: "thy saving power."
