At the time Christian Science was presented to me my state of mind could have been described in the words of Martin Luther, "I am weary of the world, and the world is weary of me; the parting will be easy." I was suffering from nervous disorders caused by unhappiness, discord, and disappointments. Being the daughter of a physician, besides having had hospital training myself, I was well versed in medical science. I consented to read Christian Science to "quiet my nerves," but informed the friend who was trying to help me that I would not accept Christian Science for physical healing. However, I soon received help and composure from my study.

A few months later I found myself experiencing severe facial pain. Home remedies failed, and two doctors, who diagnosed the trouble as neuritis, told me I could expect to suffer from it indefinitely. They prescribed various drugs to quiet the pain, but soon these failed to give relief. Then I determined to seek the healing which I had spurned. My copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, opened to "the scientific statement of being" (p. 468) and I decided to memorize it, Each word seemed to stand out separately and I searched its meaning. In about thirty minutes I realized that the raging pain which I had endured for weeks had completely left me, and I knew that I had experienced an instantaneous healing. Great was my joy, for I had gained a glimpse of a new life, where one is never alone with his problems. This occurred many years ago, and the trouble has never returned.

Since that time, we have had many beautiful healings in our home, such as those of dislocated hip, scarlet fever, whooping cough, mumps, severe burns, and influenza. In all of these instances, healing and strength came much more quickly than I had ever seen the come through the application of material remedies under similar conditions.
