During a Wednesday evening testimony meeting I...
During a Wednesday evening testimony meeting I heard quoted the words of Mrs. Eddy (Science and Health, p. 481), "Man is free 'to enter into the holiest,'—the realm of God." I can gratefully testify that obedience to spiritual law overcomes material difficulties.
Some time ago my wife complained of violent toothache. She went to a dentist, who found in the gums a festering fistula which had attacked the jawbone. In his opinion only a specialist could be of help. The specialist tried everything in order at least to bring my wife relief, but with little success. At that time my wife was attending regularly the Christian Science services, but she thought that such a difficulty could not be removed without material means. A customary confidence in the doctor seemed to be greater than confidence in God, "who healeth all [our] diseases."
There was no improvement at the end of six weeks, and the doctor declared that he would have to operate. Then the way suddenly became clear to the patient. She put herself under God's care and gave up all trust in material treatment. She requested me to ask a Christian Science practitioner for help. Freedom from the distressing condition was instantaneously realized—a proof of the efficacy of divine law to heal. Paul says, in his epistle to the Philippians, "My God shall supply all your need." I am grateful with all my heart for this experience, and I endeavor through daily study to become better acquainted with the teachings of our beloved Leader.
