Christian Science found me preparing for a major operation for cystic tumors, the second in one year. The attending physician did not seem to be very hopeful. I had no desire to go through with this second operation, because it seemed so useless, for I had been under the doctor's care for a number of years. In this state of mind I prayed for a way out, and the name of a woman with whom I had worked some years before came to my thought, and I remembered that she had become a Christian Science practitioner. Immediately I asked my husband to call her. I felt I should never be well, but at least I wanted to know something more about God.

When my husband called her he was told that she would work for me and would be out to see me in four days. When she came, she said to me, "Of course, you are already healed." After she left, this thought kept repeating itself to me, and I said aloud, "If I am already healed, then I can get up." I had been in bed for three weeks. I asked my nurse for my clothes, but she refused, saying she would leave if I left my bed. I told her lovingly that she could leave, for I was well.

I dressed myself, walked out on the porch, and waved good-by to her as she drove off. I did not go back to bed again, and within two weeks the growths passed from my body. A few months later, at my husband's request, I had a physical examination and was pronounced sound.
