It seems to me that the essential problem of our generation ... is to find God. ... The task is to learn again to pray. And until we have relearned that, there can be little hope for a restoration of decency and justice.

The way of God is the way of peace. Wars among nations, class wars, hatred of man for man, racial prejudice, religious arrogance—these are not the way of God. But of these the world is full today. ... Forgo the assumptions of personal power as an end in itself. Believe in the goodness of God, the brotherhood of man—of these we can build the world anew. ... Paganism produces arrogance; reverence for God, humility. The mark of our era is personal and national arrogance. ...
