Perseverance

Perseverance is an essential quality in the character of the truly great. In an article entitled "Fidelity" in "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 340): "The lives of great men and women are miracles of patience and perseverance. Every luminary in the constellation of human greatness, like the stars, comes out in the darkness to shine with the reflected light of God."

Do we aspire to realize true greatness? Then we must patiently and perseveringly learn to bless others. It is only in proportion to our ability to do good that we are truly entitled to be called great. Paul admonished that we pray "always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance."

Among the outstandingly great, those who by their unselfed labor have blessed mankind, we find Moses. He gave to mortals the moral law. Obedience to this law has uplifted and freed multitudes from debased slavery to carnality—the carnal mind.
