Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of...

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in regard to testimonials, in the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 24): "Testimony in regard to the healings of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)." And on page 372 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" she says, "A just acknowledgment of Truth and of what it has done for us is an effectual help." It is to glorify God and praise His Son, the Way-shower and Master, Christ Jesus, and also Mrs. Eddy, for blessings received through Christian Science, that I write this testimony.

Twenty-four years ago an acquaintance and neighbor, seeing my great need of physical help, mentioned Christian Science to me. At that time preparations had been made for an opeation in the hospital. After the operation, from which there were no beneficial results, and after being under the care of leading physicians and resorting to various material remedies all my life, I read a testimony in a Christian Science Sentinel. This particular testimony aroused my interest, and I thought to myself that if such a wonderful healing as that testimony related could be wrought through Christian Science for that individual, it was possible for me to receive help from it also. Before long I sought the help of a practitioner. The light that flooded my consciousness, bringing relief to a suffering body and removing a dark veil from my thinking, lifted me into such a changed mental attitude that I at once realized a blessing had come to me that was beyond all human comprehension.

Among the many physical healings I have experienced since accepting and faithfully studying Christian Science was one of severe periodic inflammation of the bowels, which would suddenly render me absolutely helpless, requiring the help of a physician. He would administer as many as three or four hypodermics at one visit, leaving me ofttimes in a bad condition for several days. An inactive condition of the bowels, which had necessitated material remedies for years, was also healed. Severe attacks of tonsillitis had kept me in bed for two or three weeks at a time under the doctor's care, but I have not had an attack of that ailment all these years. I have also been healed of various fevers to which I was formerly subject, and of an internal trouble which physicians told me would probably cause me to become an invalid. These and many other difficulties have been healed and overcome through God's help alone.
