Townsville Daily Bulletin
In a recent issue a reference was made to Christian Science as being neither Christian nor scientific. I should thank you for space to reply to it. Christian Science is Christian because it is compassionate and kind, as every religion which claims to follow the teachings of Christ Jesus should be. It is scientific because it gives an exact knowledge of God, of man as God's image and likeness, and of God's law. The knowledge of God's law and the understanding that man is governed by this divine law set men free to master the temptations of evil, called sin and sickness.
Liberty of conscience to worship God according to the dictates of his own heart is right for everyone. There is one God, the Father of all, and Christianity will be better understood and loved and sought after as its adherents strive to live good Christian lives and bring out, according to their understanding, the healing works which were practiced by the Master, Christ Jesus.
In all Christian Science Reading Rooms and in most public libraries are to be found the published writings of Mrs. Eddy and authorized Christian Science literature. A knowledge of these writings enables an honest seeker for information to know genuine Christian Science. In the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes on page 342, "Christian Science awakens the sinner, reclaims the infidel, and raises from the couch of pain the helpless invalid."
