With deep gratitude I recall the many blessings which have come to me in Christian Science.
One healing especially, which I experienced many years ago, made a deep impression on me. I had gone to the city, a day's journey away from our home, to see my children, who were attending school there. One evening, when all alone in the hotel room, I had a heart attack. I could just manage to press the bell before I became quite rigid. When the servant came, I asked him to telephone a lady and ask her to come to me. This lady was a Christian Science practitioner who had come from Berlin to Riga. It was probably already ten o'clock in the evening, but the practitioner soon arrived.
After about a quarter of an hour the rigidness gradually eased and I was able to stretch out on the bed, where I had been sitting unable to move. Then the practitioner left me and I went to sleep peacefully. The next morning I woke up early and leaped out of bed with a feeling of joy that is indescribable, and with the clear perception that there is no sickness, as Science teaches. This thought stayed with me, and I went about as if on wings. I was as one newborn, full of power and joy. Since then, twenty-five years ago, I have never had another heart attack. It is impossible to express my gratitude in words, especially for the spiritual uplifting which followed.
