In your issue of September 19 there was a reference to Christian Science which was kindly, and which Christian Scientists appreciate. However, although the power and success of Christian Science in healing the sick and the sinning are acknowledged, there is an apparent lack of understanding of the subject in the article quoted, which may be misleading to your readers. I ask, therefore, the favor of space in your paper to make the necessary corrections.

The speaker quoted referred to Christian Science as a "system." In its full significance, however, it must be understood as Christianity in its grandest, most vital meaning. It is "religion" in all the loveliest aspects of that word, and the genuine healings of disease and other discords wrought through Christian Science prayer bring the spiritual uplifting which transforms the lives of those healed.

Its methods are based upon Truth, and the understanding of Truth; therefore it cannot be said to contain merely "an element" of truth. Also, there is nothing "miraculous" in its cures to those who understand its teachings, for its healings are the outcome of the laws of God applied to human needs, just as Christ Jesus employed them; and the Christian Scientist understands those laws to be good only. He understands the true nature of God and man, and this spiritual understanding makes practical the power of God which heals the sick.
