On page 135 in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes, "What cannot God do?" God has done for me what was in no man's power to do. Thirteen years ago a friend spoke to me of Christian Science. I was at that time a very sick and heartbroken woman. I had been ill for fifteen years, and not a single day in all those years had I felt completely well. I had consulted many doctors and undergone several operations without being helped. I was extremely nervous, and not one of the physicians could diagnose my case. The last doctor whom I consulted told me that if I would submit to treatment during three years, I would be better, but never healed. I began with these treatments, but had to give them up after less than two years, on account of my inability to pay.

My husband passed on and left me without means. Bowed down with sorrow, sick in body, and in financial difficulties, I wanted to leave this life. I had nothing to live on, and nothing to live for. It was at this point that Christian Science found me.

I went to a Christian Science church a few times and thought at once that this was something for me. I did not understand, however, that I could be helped in my sickness. The friend who had first spoken to me about Christian Science told me that I could turn to a practitioner for help, which I at once decided to do. She was kind enough to receive me at once, and I shall never forget how lovingly she spoke to me. The following night I slept peacefully, a thing I had not done for six years. Very often I had spent entirely sleepless nights. After three or four visits to the practitioner a great peace came to me, my courage was renewed, I wanted to live and work, and I soon felt entirely well. My old friends were very much astonished at the great change that had taken place in me.
