Honesty

The Christian man or woman finds comfort and satisfaction in being honest. The thoughtful man recognizes that honesty is a fundamental quality of genuine success. The Christian Scientist knows that honesty goes further. He finds that he greatly enhances his spirituality and benefits himself physically and mentally by his study of this term as used in the Bible and the works of Mary Baker Eddy, for thereby he gains an enlarged comprehension of honesty as included in true character and virtue.

The deep significance of honesty opens up vistas of eternal good, and makes this quality of great importance in human lives. Paul said, "Provide things honest in the sight of all men." Honesty means far more than meeting material obligations, important as this is in business and human life. Honesty is related to divine Principle.

Humanity is greatly harassed and depressed by the lack of honesty, and the question arises, How may one be aroused to a higher appreciation of this quality in everyday affairs? Christian Science teaches that betterment and reform come by recognizing the perfection of God and His creation. When an individual recognizes honesty as something which enables him to advance in the understanding of his relation to God, he is awakened to its importance and utility.
