"Remember now thy Creator"

[Written Especially for Young People]

The ancient preacher whose wise sayings are recorded in the book of Ecclesiastes, had a clear sense of the needs of young people when he wrote, "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them."

To those who are learing, through the teachings of Christian Science, spiritually to understand God as their creator, this old saying is invested with deep significance. Christian Science reveals God as the one only only creator, infinite Mind, and also reveals that man is His image and likeness. The understanding of these spiritual truths enables us to recognize and express the real spiritual selfhood of man, and to overcome all that is unlike God's creation, by knowing its nothingness.

Youth is pictured in song and story as a very wonderful time of life, with great capacity for enjoyment, and abundance of joy, freshness, and euthusiasm. If we accept the belief of fleeting youth, we also accept the belief of old age and decay, for both youth and age are part of the belief that man is material. To "remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth" is to remember that the real man does not experience birth, maturity, or decay.
