Express and Star

I was interested in an article in your paper entitled "Church of Infinite Cheerfulness," written after a visit to First Church of Christ, Scientist, Wolverhampton. The writer's account of the service he attended and his views on the teachings of Christian Science are sincere, and whilst his remarks are appreciated to the full, there are several points which I should like to make clear, giving brief answers to his friendly questions.

Christian Science is a Christian religion based on the Bible and the teachings of our Master. It acknowledges the divinity of the Christ and insists that through Christ alone is mankind saved. Its students strive to emulate, as far as they are able, the example of the Galilean Prophet in healing the sick and overcoming sin and death. It cannot be compared with pagan or heathen philosophies.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, there are no contradictory statements. "Mind is not both good and bad, for God is Mind;" and: "Evil is nothing, no thing, mind, nor power. As manifested by mankind it stands for a lie" (p. 330). Certainly, God is good and is All.
