For many years prior to my commencing the study of Christian Science I criticized this teaching severely, and all those who professed to be Scientists, until finally some of my closest friends had some marvelous healings of a physical nature, which forced me to meditate on how and why this teaching could perform what to me seemed impossible.

For many years I had been a constant sufferer from several severe complaints. I was content to gain some slight easement from these from time to time by material remedies, believing always that I could expect nothing more in any event. I was also faced with a sense of lack, being unable at that time to obtain employment which I could perform, until I was finally driven to seek some way out of all this physical and mental suffering. Then, through one of my friends, I was led to search in Christian Science to find out what this truth had in store for me, and to my surprise, at that time, I found what I was really looking for.

After a time I had the pleasure of meeting a Christian Science practitioner, whom I later engaged to do some work for me on supply and employment. Within a few days I was offered one of the best salaried positions I had ever enjoyed, which I gratefully accepted. This led on to other successful demonstrations. At one time I had experienced a severe attack of inflammatory rheumatism, together with heart trouble and other complications, and I had nearly passed on. This trouble again attacked me a few months after I became interested in Science. I was forced to quit my work and was confined to bed for about a month. This time I dispensed with all medical assistance. The doctor formerly attending me had informed me that he could not do anything for my trouble, except to ease the pain slightly with drugs, so I relied entirely on the Christian Science practitioner and a Christian Science nurse, with the result that I got a complete healing.
