Standing Porter

Mary Baker Eddy writes on page 392 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously." It is of vital importance to the progress of the Christian Scientist that he learn to be a wide-awake "porter at the door of thought."

Our beloved Leader also advises us that "we should become more familiar with good than with evil, and guard against false beliefs as watchfully as we bar our door against the approach of thieves and murderers" (ibid., p. 234). This shows how vigilant one should be in watching his thinking.

What householder would not guard his door carefully if he knew that thieves and murderers were in the vicinity? He would take whatever precaution he thought necessary to protect his household.
