Star-News,

A minister was quoted in the Star-News as saying that certain groups, including the Christian Science church, "are offering something that people sense as a value." This recognition of Christian Science is appreciated, but may I say to your readers that there is no relation between this religion and the systems that the minister mentioned with it.

Christian Science is unique. It insists upon the allness of God, Spirit, the unreality of matter, and the perfection of man, God's image and likeness. It accords no curative powers to drugs or other material means, places no reliance on the human mind in the healing work, and destroys sickness and sin by the spiritually mental method that Christ Jesus taught and practiced.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 387), "The history of Christianity furnishes sublime proofs of the supporting influence and protecting power bestowed on man by his heavenly Father, omnipotent Mind, who gives man faith and understanding whereby to defend himself, not only from temptation, but from bodily suffering." The healing works of Christian Scientists are a fulfillment of the Master's promise, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also."
