A testimony of the healings which I received during the earlier years of my study and practice of Christian Science, and of my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, appeared in The Christian Science Journal several years ago. Since then, Christian Science has been a wonderful protection to me. The fact that the temptation to be ill, even as the temptation to sin, comes to one as an erroneous suggestion to be either accepted or rejected, has enabled me to experience more and more the true consciousness of health.
Christian Science has also been to me the Comforter which Christ Jesus promised. Several years ago I entered a Christian Science Reading Room, seeking comfort. Our only Child, a son preparing for college, had passed on. I opened a copy of the Journal and read these words quoted from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 386): "You will learn at length that there is no cause for grief, and divine wisdom will then be understood." Then she says (ibid.), "So, when our friends pass from our sight and we lament, that lamentation is needless and causeless." I yearned to understand this. I longed for release from grief that I might obey the commands of the Bible more fully.
I remarked to a friend that it seemed hard for me to face the future; she hesitated, and then answered in a voice full of compassion and healing, "There is no hard place for God's child." This thought has comforted me greatly, and helped me to continue my efforts in proving the truth of her divine statement.
