The healing power and comfort of Christian Science reached me when I was in great need of freedom. For several years I had been searching for health from medical science, physicians, and surgeons; I had undergone two surgical operations, and had gradually lost hope of being really well again.

A few weeks before hearing of Christian Science, I had failed to recover from an operation and was going through a very miserable experience, being unable to swallow, speak, or sleep without difficulty. Of all this Christian Science healed me in one night. A loving relative invited me to her home, and gave me the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. After I had read it for several hours, a new perception of life and health filled my thought and I went to sleep. The next morning I arose, went for a swim, and ate breakfast—the first meal for several weeks. From that day I threw out all material remedies—and they had been many—and resolved to devote the rest of my life to the study and practice of Christian Science.

Within a few months I was able to leave the professional nursing I had done for many years to take up work in infant welfare in another state. It was a joy to attend the Christian Science services, and read the literature from the Reading Rooms.
